Toni Braxton, Once a Pentecostal

feature photo

Perhaps we all know Toni Braxton as the R&B and pop singer who became very famous during the 90’s. But did you know that she was once a Pentecostal? Being a daughter of a Pentecostal minister, she was raised typically in stringent Apostolic faith. The strict rules of her family’s faith did not allow her to wear pants, makeup or sandals, to have boyfriends, and to listen to mainstream music; but that didn’t hamper her from secretly listening to music and watching the television when her parents were out. When Toni’s parents transferred to the United Methodist Church, which has less strict rules, she had the chance to discover and pursue her singing profession.

Well, I guess this is really how a certified hit-maker is born. Despite all the hindrances Toni encountered, she still managed to make her dreams come true.
