Speaking in Tongues
There is something that disturbs me about the Pentecostal denomination placing importance and emphasis on certain spiritual gifts. I am not arguing that spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues do not exist. But I can’t help but disapprove of making this gift as a seal to label a saved Christian. I disagree that having the ability to speak in tongues means you have already received the Holy Spirit. Moreover, some preachers are even trying to teach people to speak in tongues as if it is a skill that can be learned rather than an intangible gift from God. I believe this is not the only method to receive God in our hearts and each one of us has our own unique ways of praising Him. Speaking in tongues definitely doesn’t mean you are saved.

I think you make some good points. We may not agree 100%, but I would like to invite you into a larger discussion of the Holy Spirit at a new blog called, “Promise of the Father. Check out my intro article and see if this is a conversation you might enjoy.

The reason Pentecostals emphasize the gift of tongues is because tongues was the evidence that the disciples looked for in order to know that the church had received God’s gift of the Holy Ghost.(Acts 10:44-46)(Acts 19:6)It’s not that it’s more important but it has shown to be the most obvious sign of the Holy Ghost.
